Young Women of Promise is currently accepting applications for Youth Service Ambassadors from students in grades 6-12 and young adults ages 18-25, who are interested in designing and performing ongoing service activities in Kinston-Lenoir County and surrounding communities.
Young Women of Promise has been selected by Youth Service America to serve as a Semester of Service Lead Agency for the project period that spans from Martin Luther King Holiday on January 18, 2010 through Global Youth Service Day on April 23-25, 2010.
Youth Service Ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate in monthly Leadership Development workshops including teambuilding; conflict resolution; time management, public speaking, writing, and more. The program will also give the youth the opportunity to reflect on their service through journaling, photography, and blogging. They will also be able to apply for small mini-grants to support their volunteer service projects which support the issue areas including the elderly; youth; homelessness, literacy; hunger, education; community clean-ups and more.
Youth Service Ambassadors will be expected to participate in leadership development and/or service learning projects on the 1st and/or 3rd Saturday of each month beginning on January 16, 2010.
